I don’t remember the exact moment I fell for you.
It wasn’t like in the movies—the kind where a princess loses her shoe while running and a prince finds her because of it. Not like the stories in teleseryes where everything is dramatic and destined. It just… happened. Somewhere between our usual conversations and the quiet comfort of knowing you were always there.
Yesterday, you were just my best friend.
And then now, you were already the person I looked for in everything.
We started simple. Late-night talks. Random updates about our day. Sending each other things that reminded us of one another. You were the first person I wanted to tell things to—good or bad. The first person I looked for when I checked my phone in the morning, and the last person before I went to sleep at night.
I think that’s why I didn’t notice right away when things started to change. Or maybe I did—I just chose not to. I just chose to ignore it. I just chose to stay blinded by what I felt.
Because there were moments when everything felt like we weren’t just friends anymore. Moments that lingered a little too long to be called “friendly.” The way we talked like we were the only two people in the world. The way silence between us never felt empty. The way you mattered to me in a way no one else did.
And I kept asking myself, “Is this still friendship?”
But I never asked you. I think part of me was scared of the answer.
You never said anything either. You stayed the same—close, but not too close. Sweet, but never clear. You gave me just enough to hope, but never enough to be sure.
And I stayed. God, I stayed.
I told myself I was okay with whatever this was—that labels didn’t matter. That as long as you were in my life, that was enough.
But it wasn’t.
Because somewhere along the way, I stopped feeling like your best friend and started feeling like… something in between—not quite yours, but not just anyone either.
And that “in between” hurt more than anything.
There were so many things I wanted to say. So many almost-confessions that sat at the tip of my tongue but never made it out. I kept waiting for the right time, the right moment—something that would finally make everything make sense.
But that moment never came.
Instead, things just slowly changed.
We talked less. Conversations grew shorter. I don’t even remember when it started feeling different—I just remember realizing that it already was.
You felt farther away, even when nothing big had happened. And that’s what hurt the most.
There was no fight. No clear ending. No moment where we could say, “this is why it didn’t work.” We just drifted.
Like two people walking in the same direction at first, until one day, they weren’t anymore.
I wanted to ask you what happened. I wanted to ask if I meant as much to you as you did to me. I wanted to know if I imagined everything—or if you felt it too and just didn’t choose it.
But I didn’t. Because deep down, I think I already knew. You weren’t going to choose me. And I didn’t want to hear that out loud.
So I let you go quietly—the same way you slowly slipped out of my life. And now, you’re just someone I used to know everything about.
Sometimes I still think about you. About how easy everything used to be. About how I truly believed we were going somewhere—that maybe one day, we’d look back and laugh about how we started as “just friends.”
But we never got there. We stopped at almost.
And I think that’s what makes it so hard to move on from.
Because there’s no real ending to hold onto. Just questions. Just memories. Just feelings that never had anywhere to go.
For a while, I kept wondering if I did something wrong. If I should’ve said something sooner. If things would’ve been different if I had been braver.
But maybe it wasn’t about that.
Maybe we were just not meant to happen the way I wanted us to. Maybe you came into my life to show me what it feels like to care that deeply about someone—and what it feels like when that kind of love isn’t returned the same way.
And I hate that it had to be you. But at the same time… I don’t regret it.
Because even if it hurt, it was real to me. You were real to me. You were my favorite part of a time I can’t go back to. And maybe that’s all we were ever meant to be.
So yeah… I guess this is it.
No big ending. No dramatic goodbye. Just the truth I never got to say when it mattered.
I loved you. I think a part of me always will. But I’m finally learning how to let that go. Goodbye.
