Tutorial on how to promptly celebrate our pride in our language as Filipinos:
Make an accurate tutorial on how to celebrate our pride in our language as Filipinos. Make it short and concise, remove any words that sound artificially generated. Make it in paragraphs only and ensure it is understandable.
First, understand the history. Filipinos spent years trying to undo the DECADES of damage our colonizers have inflicted on us. For all the times that other ethnicities have questioned whether or not we were part of their ethnicity due to similar cultures, for the times people called us copycats — or even the times when online recipes called a traditional Filipino dish called "Kinilaw", the "Filipino version of Ceviche" due to its similarities with using raw fish and the presence of citrus, which erases the essence of our cultural identity with the nation’s food. If you simply search for “kinilaw”, hundreds of recipes often have “Filipino Ceviche” in parentheses after.
Secondly, know the effects of cultural erasure. Cultural erasure can truly harm the originality and identity of Filipinos, especially if national dishes are called the Filipino dishes of other nations. Despite this, we can give them the benefit of the doubt, as their recipes are made by humans. If you were to ask an AI bot to give you a recipe for kinilaw, it would taste bland and far from it, in spite of stealing original recipes from humans.
All this talk of cultural erasure, yet we let artificial intelligence erase our authenticity. Our culture is filled with music, poetry—the arts and languages; all of that used to be tools in crafting entertaining activities during this annual event. Yet nowadays, people have been mindlessly prompting AI in prompt competitions. All this in the guise of "ethical usage".
Third, question what happened. Where did the essence of Buwan ng Wika go? Did it fade along with the hope of Filipinos?
Imagine if every paresan you go to, you hear the agitating sounds of artificially generated budots blasting on the speakers; if every poster of every small business owner in the Philippines is just clearly put through ChatGPT with the prompt “Make an icon for my small cupcake business and make a poster about how good my cupcakes are”. It’s fast, it’s tacky, it completely fails to capture the hearts of the Filipinos.
As Filipinos, we annually celebrate Buwan ng Wika as a way to show appreciation for our culture and what it does for us. It provides us a sense of identity; a belief that we are not the same nation they once tried to conquer. We celebrate this language because it shows who we are and what our nation stands for, which explains that all bits and pieces of our history shall never remain forgotten in the cold depths of the archives.
We cannot allow our archives to be filled with horrendous AI-generated posters that contain deformed fingers and horrid color schemes with the same five fonts. Filipinos are known to be creative; we cannot suppress this creativity with the use of generative AI.
According to GMA News, on August 24, 2026, Vice President Sara Duterte pushes and urges the agenda of using artificial intelligence as a way to integrate technology and innovation into our culture through her message about Buwan ng Wika. With many netizens even firing back at her statements with comments such as “Is this AI? It feels AI”, it shows mockery and how upset Filipinos are - especially writers and creatives.
Although it is important we keep up with other countries through their development of technology and such, it is also important to know that we should use them in a way that does not harm our identity and culture. We can hold digital poster competitions to embrace and appreciate our heritage, create writing competitions that do not require artificial intelligence while also posting them online; these are just a few things we can do to incorporate both technology and culture into our nation. Not just simply leaving it up to the masked dullness of the uncreative world of artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence is nothing but mindless and hollowed-out ideas disguised as intellect. If the youth and the people keep using artificial intelligence, what’s left for the real creatives and those who appreciate the culture enough to learn it with their bare hands and brains?
To love your language is to learn and understand it with the ones who are truly knowledgeable of it, which are actual people who know their own identity. AI can act like it is Filipino, but it never will be because it is not human.
To be a Filipino, one must be a human and, more importantly, one must feel like one. AI cannot feel; it cannot write about its appreciation of its own language because it does not have its own language; it is a blank state with no identity other than the label of artificial intelligence.
AI will one day rob our identity; it will shed our skin and use it as its own.
