Davao Del Sur’s Ignatius Gutierrez and Carl Romiro stifled a midway stumble to thwart the Davao Oriental siblings Gelo and Roje Musa, 21-12, 19-21, 21-18 and claim the Municipal of Sta. Cruz’s first gold in the Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) Meet men's elementary badminton doubles.
The DavSur duo kept their form when it mattered most, pulling off a 4-1 surge in the decider to drub the Musa brothers and seal the Palarong Pambansa ticket at the JB Smashville Badminton Court, Tagum City, February 25.
"Pangarap talaga namin mag Palaro matagal na, masaya kami kasi nabigyan na ng chance ngayon, " Guttierez uttered.
Gutierrez and Romiro started the opener strong, thanks to the former's cross-court attacks and the latter's forehand smashes to secure a nine-point cushion, 21-12, against their foes.
However, the Davao Oriental brothers fought back in the second, firing net attacks that stumped the Davao Del Sur dyad to tie the set score at 1-all.
Yet, the orange-clad DavSur pair overcame their earlier woes with a late 4-1 blitz before finally hammering the nail in the coffin against their counterpart.
With victory secured, Gutierrez and Romiro are set to represent Davao Region in the upcoming 2026 Palarong Pambansa.
