Filipina tennis ace Alexandra “Alex” Eala powered past Croatia’s Petra Marcinko, 2-0 (6-0, 6-2), to book her spot in the quarterfinals of the 2026 ASB Classic at the Manuka Doctor Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, on January 08.
The commanding victory marked one of Eala’s most decisive performances this season as she continued her surge on the WTA Tour with confidence and precision.
Eala opened the match with aggressive shot-making, forcing Marcinko into unforced errors and rapidly building an early lead.
Every stroke from Eala was sharp and penetrating, keeping Marcinko on the defensive throughout.
The Filipina closed the set in dominant fashion, blanking her opponent, 6-0, in just under an hour.
Marcinko attempted to change tactics in the second set, but Eala’s court coverage and depth of groundstrokes kept her in full control.
Eala’s powerful baseline game forced the Croatian to cede another break, stretching her advantage further.
The Filipino star finished strong, clinching the set 6-2 to seal her quarterfinal berth.
“I feel amazing. I’m so happy with how I was able to compete and handle the different situations on court,” Eala said after her win, adding that it’s never easy playing a strong opponent.
Eala’s coach noted that her mental toughness and ability to adapt to varying conditions in Auckland were key factors in her smooth victory.

lassic semifinals.
