Lyann de Guzman continued to prove her value as Nxled rolled to a straight-sets win over Capital1 in the All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at Ynares Center Montalban.
The Chameleons controlled the match from start to finish to remain unbeaten through two elimination-round outings.
De Guzman delivered timely points and steady floor defense, finishing with 13 markers that tilted momentum in Nxled’s favor.
Her showing once again highlighted why the coaching staff trusted her with a major role despite the arrival of established stars.
Veterans Brooke Van Sickle and Myla Pablo paced the scoring with 15 points each to complement De Guzman’s all-around effort.
Nxled’s balance on offense kept Capital1 from mounting any sustained run across three sets.
Head coach Ettore Guidetti emphasized De Guzman’s work ethic as a constant presence in training and competition.
“I’m happier every single day about her effort and her attitude during the practice,” Guidetti said following the victory.
The Italian mentor added that consistency, more than numbers, separated De Guzman from the rest of the rotation.
De Guzman earlier showed the same impact off the bench in Nxled’s opening win against Farm Fresh.
Her versatility allowed her to slide between outside and opposite hitting roles without disrupting the team’s rhythm.
“It’s really about sticking to the coach’s system,” De Guzman said of her approach in adapting to new responsibilities.
She also pointed to healthy competition within the roster as a factor in Nxled’s strong start.
Despite the early success, the Chameleons viewed the win as a step rather than a destination.
“We have to improve in one week,” Guidetti said as Nxled prepared for its upcoming clash with Cignal.
