Michaelo Buddin propelled National University (NU) as they showcased their championship poise against University of Santo Tomas (UST) in straight-set victory, 25-22, 29-27, 25-19, kicking off their six-peat drive in a dominant fashion UAAP S88 Men's Volleyball Tournament at SM Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, February 15.
National University wrapped the game in just one hour and 27 minutes after powering by Alas Pilipinas star, Buddin’s impressive performance, 16 points behind his 11 attacks, three blocks, and two aces, including eight excellent receptions.
The white-clad squad set motion in the opening frame with solid gameplay, with Buddin orchestrating five points built by cross-court hits, which ignited the National University first set authority, 1-0.
After being down by six in the second set, 5-11, Buddin then continued to flourish as he registered three early points that helped to complete the 7-0 run driven by high-flying attacks and a block to secure the first lead for NU, 12-11.
Buddin then remained radiant, carving off seven third-set points that contributed NU's early offensive rampage to quickly claim the momentum, sparked by a commanding 13-5 advantage that was enough to barricade the chances of UST to cruise ahead.
Two-time MVP Josh Ybañez finished the game with eight points and 15 excellent receptions in a losing effort.
At last, NU is now eyeing to clinch back-to-back win against Adamson University on Wednesday, 9 a.m. at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
