SPORTS | A Step Back, Not the End: TLPH Falls Short, Far from Finished

In the ever-shifting world of MPL Philippines, success isn’t measured just by how many crowns you lift, but by how you respond when the throne slips away. Team Liquid PH is proving that consistency, adaptability, and resilience matter more than unbroken streaks.

Team Liquid’s history in MPL PH traces back to earlier seasons, championships under earlier incarnations (as ECHO/ Liquid ECHO) established them early. But like many competitive teams, they’ve had their share of valleys. In seasons where they didn’t win, TLPH didn’t fade away, they used those setbacks to regroup, reassess, and come back stronger. Rather than a dynasty fueled by perfection, TLPH is a franchise built on reinvention.

In 2025, TLPH once again showed why they remain a top-tier team. In the regular seasons, they locked up the top seed, showing dominance and consistency. When the playoffs came, they faced the reigning champions ONIC PH and were swept by them in the upper-bracket finals, knocking TLPH into the lower bracket.

But TLPH didn’t quit. They battled through the lower bracket, made it to Grand Finals, and in a nerve-wracking seven-game series, they managed to dethrone ONIC PH and claim the championship. The win was a testament to TLPH’s perseverance, teamwork, and strategic depth. Not a flawless reign, but a hard-earned victory that proved they still belong at the top.

The most recent season offered a rasping reality: TLPH didn’t immediately reclaim the crown. Early matches showed cracks. Their arch-rivals ONIC PH managed to shut them out in the opening of the new season, a sweep lost that served as a wake up call.

This “failure to reclaim” doesn’t mark a collapse, but a reminder of how competitive MPL PH remains. Every champion like TLPH has to fight every win with legacy, experience, and talent.

TLPH’s value lies in how they respond under pressure. Their journey isn’t defined by uninterrupted dominance, but by capacity to rebuild, refocus, and adapt in the face of loss.

This season’s early stumble shows one thing clearly: in a league as dynamic as MPL PH, staying on top isn’t a given. What matters more is whether a team is willing to reinvent themselves, adjust to meta shifts, tighten their synergy, and fight for every game.
