An advantage of digital e-certificates is faster access to records because having databases and indexing algorithms allow systems to easily retrieve information within seconds instead of manually searching paper archives in offices.
Stepping Stone: How Digital Certificates Work
Digital e-certificates are accessed through ‘PSAHelpline.ph’. It works by converting official civil registry records into secure digital documents that are stored, verified, and delivered electronically.
First, the physical civil registry document is digitized—it is scanned and/or encoded and stored as binary data (0s and 1s) in a computer database, which means it cannot be easily tampered.
Next, the system applies cryptography, where digital signatures and hash codes are generated to create a unique digital fingerprint that protects the document from tampering.
The certificate is then stored in a secure database, where it undergoes indexing and search algorithms. Allowing the system to quickly retrieve the correct record when requested.
A QR code may also be attached to the digital certificate so that scanners can instantly verify its authenticity by linking it to the official database.
Finally, the certificate is sent to the user through the internet using encrypted network protocols, ensuring the document remains secure during transmission.
Pros and Cons
Another benefit is strong security since cryptography, digital signatures, and hash functions ensure that the documents cannot be easily altered without detection, ensuring safe transactions.
Certificates also include QR codes, allowing quick-easy machine verification by scanning a two-dimensional pattern that links to the authentic database.
Despite these advantages, digital systems may face risks such as cyberattacks, data breaches, or technical failures that could easily compromise sensitive information if security measures are insufficient.
Another limitation is the digital division, as individuals with limited internet access or digital literacy may find it difficult to obtain or verify electronic documents.
