ClearBot is real and it’s happening right now. According to the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), a solar-powered, artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled vessel has arrived to help clean floating waste in the Pasig River. This incredible invention may change the future of water cleanup. It is the talk of the town. Based on information from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), ClearBot has already helped collect waste and water hyacinths — showing powerful results after just a few weeks.
Meanwhile, experts further announced that the public should be aware of these two core points about ClearBot: its benefits and the challenges it faces while cleaning our rivers.
In Focus: What are the benefits of ClearBot?
Obviously, there is more to ClearBot that needs to be appreciated. Based on the information from MMDA the benefits of clearbot are collecting up to 500 kg of waste in one trip Uses solar power, making it environment-friendly, runs up to eight hours nonstop in the river, finds trash automatically using AI, gathers data on waste and water quality, and helps improve flood resilience by clearing water pathways.
Similarly, ADB highlighted that ClearBot can take photos, collect GPS locations of garbage, and spot waste hotspots — helping leaders plan smarter cleanup strategies.

No doubt, ClearBot is impressive, but like any invention, it faces challenges. In accordance with the reports from ClearBot co-founders, the strong currents of the Pasig River made the machine struggle the first time. They had to improve its engine and change parts so that it can also operate in shallow waters and collect larger water hyacinths.
Weighing all these facts, it all boils down to this: Being prepared is much more better than being scared.
