Back in 2021, when Former President Rodrigo Duterte was still in position, he made sexist remarks, which is not new to people’s ears. Telling his daughter, now Vice President Sara Duterte, not to go for the presidential position as it is “no woman’s job.”
Now, after 5 years, Sara decided to go for the highest position in the government in the upcoming 2028 national elections. Surprisingly, disobeying what seemed to be the advice of his father years ago. When in fact, in the 2022 national elections, she did take the “advice” and ran for vice presidency where she won.
As Sara announced her presidential bid for the 2028 national elections, many citizens raised the misogynistic statement made by her father. Telling that if that’s the case, claiming that women cannot handle a presidential job, then perhaps it should be applied to her. However, misogyny is not something to be supported by the people.
The point is, given the numerous issues regarding her confidential funds, it makes her not suitable for a presidential position. As cliché as it is, great power does come with great responsibility, and so, with her running away from accountability, it makes her less fit for a higher position in our country. With various impeachment complaints against her, then might as well face it all instead of running away by just removing the “vice” in her current position.
After all, the presidency is for everyone, regardless of their gender, as long as they have the full potential and one who can hold accountability and responsibility in whatever they do. Yet, with Sara Duterte’s current image, a woman who still has unresolved issues in the country, and a massive idler in the Hague, then maybe she should reconsider the sexist “advice” his father told her years ago; instead of telling the world that she’s going for her new path to be the president of the Philippines, running away, and being avoidant to the Filipino people about her incompetence. Presidency is for everyone, even women, but not for a woman who is all for clout and not the job and responsibility.
