Recent corruption scandals in the country have prompted the administration and independent government bodies to investigate the billions of pesos allegedly stolen from the people by contractors, officials, and even politicians currently in office. Among the independent bodies tasked with investigating corruption cases are the Office of the Ombudsman and the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI).
But despite investigations being done, the people seem to remain blinded.
How ironic that the administration constantly brags about its efforts to solve corruption, but to this day, no one has been put behind bars. Not a single contractor, engineer, or official has been punished – how hypocritical.
We should never put independent bodies like the Ombudsman and the ICI on a pedestal – because at the end of the day, it is their job to investigate and punish these officials – a task that is yet to be done.
One thing about these officials is that they never learn from their mistakes. Investigations done by the ICI rarely get any acknowledgment, nor are they conducted publicly, which reflects the same way the billions of pesos were robbed.
While suggestions from both the Ombudsman and ICI have been released publicly to impose sanctions on those involved in the scandal, these are never enough. Billions of pesos were robbed, and only a few are mentioned in the suggestions – such an unfair situation. This situation once again showcases the hierarchy of power in our society – the rich escape from their wrongdoings while the poor suffer. As a matter of fact, various departments barely acknowledge the recommendations made by these independent bodies.
Sanctions must be imposed, and all those who deserve to be jailed must be put behind bars. The people never deserve to be deprived of justice, and these independent bodies must do their job. We will only get justice when we see the people who robbed us of our money behind bars.
We must also never forget the politicians and names involved in the issue. Those names carry the shame of robbing us of our money, future, homes, and lives – actions that must lead to cynicism. Learn from history – punish them the way they abused their power.
Enough with the false promises and show us actual progress, punishments, and accountability. The people have had enough of those band-aid solutions; they crave justice and reform – give it to them.
