We are connecting in, but where? We're online virtually, and disconnected from reality, and everything around us continues to move forward while we're trapped in a made-up world. Now what? The society, slowly consumed by social media, is taking steps toward a disconnection from reality. And I can safely assume that the world is truly evolving backwards, while the essence of a mobile device corrupts each and every one's mind. In the end, they use it as a mask to hide their true identity, and abuse the power social media holds to insult and judge instead of empowering and spreading kindness.
Ever heard of the phrase “think before you click?” In real life occasions, speaking freely can be scary because your identity is exposed, meaning your every move contains consequences that are right before you. However, as society adapts to technology, people tend to say whatever they think is right without considering how it could affect other people. It isn't just a matter of entertainment, but a prison cell that limits one from the pleasures of existence, creating users that hide behind a screen---watching, judging, and commenting without a fear of the possible consequences.
It may seem like a simple matter to some, but behind a screen lies a human being with feelings, and that is something most people forget as they click the post button.
What makes it worse is when push comes to shove, and their actions come with consequences, they are the first one to either hide away or shift their stand instantly to dodge accountability from the outcome of their unwanted opinions.
How can you disconnect from a world that will forever be connected digitally? It is hard nowadays to keep up, especially if you long for a break; but this isn’t a video game, and no matter how deeply connected you are to the life of technology, you are still present in the real world. And no matter what button you press on your device’s keyboard, there is still no pause button in life to be pressed.
It truly is saddening how people these days find difficulty in unplugging themselves from their phones. I, myself, have seen it first hand, and it is obvious how many are being controlled by their digital life rather than it being the opposite. And it is alarming, especially how it was created first to enhance life, and now it is used to bully, insult, even to send death threats to others.
It sounds awful, but it is the reality—the current world we are living in.
It is time we pull ourselves together, get rid of the leash we are currently attached to, and control our usage of the internet. Because we shouldn’t wait for the time when we are a world controlled by technology. Life will not bloom from that point; possibly, that would become the end point of living, and we’ll be the sole prisoners of technology. Shouldn’t we be afraid of that day rather than continuously celebrating the abusive use of it? Because, whether you like it or not, it will soon backfire. And the accountability they once hid from will come to light.
