NEWS | Thailand launches air strikes on Cambodia after border clashes

Thailand carried out air strikes along its disputed border with Cambodia on Monday, Nov. 8, 2025, after renewed clashes, with both countries accusing each other of violating a ceasefire agreement.

Thailand’s military reported that at least one Thai soldier was killed and four others wounded in clashes around two areas in Ubon Ratchathani province after Cambodian forces opened fire on Thai positions. “The Thai side has now begun using aircraft to strike military targets in several areas,” the statement said.

Cambodia’s defense ministry responded that Thai forces launched dawn airstrikes on its troops at two locations but denied returning fire.

The renewed violence marks a sharp turn in relations between the Southeast Asian neighbors, after earlier efforts—including a ceasefire brokered by the U.S. President Donald Trump— appeared to calm tensions.

Thailand said the airstrikes targeted Cambodian military installations, and civilian areas near the border were evacuated.

The border dispute dates back more than a century, rooted in overlapping claims to territories drawn under colonial rule.

Both governments continue to trade blame, while international observers have called for restraint and a return to negotiations.
