NEWS | Roblox will not be banned in PH, says DICT

After weeks of warnings of a possible “ban” in the Philippines, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has backed down from its earlier threats against popular gaming platform Roblox.

This comes after talks between DICT, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), law enforcement, the private sector, and Roblox management itself were held on Apr. 7.

The decision came after Roblox presented new enhanced safeguards on its platform, which includes stricter monitoring, improved mechanisms for reporting, and age-appropriate content controls.

“During a meeting on April 7, involving the DICT, CICC, Roblox, law enforcement and the private sector, both the DICT and CICC clarified that Roblox will not be banned in the Philippines, and that child safety remains the top priority,” the agency said in a statement.

Furthermore, the platform aims to launch an information campaign to strengthen and inform the public on the new safeguards by Apr. 12.

The DICT urged parents to take advantage of parental controls, such as tracking screen time, setting spending limits, blocking inappropriate experiences, and choosing age-appropriate content—in order to monitor and protect their children’s digital experience.
