NEWS | House panel seeks unified Anti-Political Dynasty Measure

The House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms plans to merge 14 pending anti-political dynasty bills into a single proposal that is constitutional and responsive to national interests, its chairperson said.

Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong said the panel is committed to reviewing each measure carefully to produce a version that upholds democratic principles and addresses public concerns.

According to Adiong, committee members will conduct in-depth discussions during hearings to evaluate the provisions of all proposed bills currently filed before the panel.

He also said the committee welcomes input from fellow lawmakers, noting that collaboration is necessary to craft legislation that reflects the collective judgment of the House.

Adiong further stressed the importance of public involvement in the process, citing discussions with House Speaker Faustino ‘Bodjie’ Dy III on the need for broad grassroots participation.

He said the committee intends to hold nationwide consultations and public hearings to ensure that citizens have a direct role in shaping the proposed law.

The proposed anti-political dynasty bill is among the priority measures identified by the House leadership under Dy.

This effort was reinforced after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Congress to fast-track the passage of an enabling law to implement constitutional provisions on political dynasties.

Adiong said the committee remains focused on delivering legislation that promotes political inclusivity and strengthens democratic governance.
