Around the afternoon yesterday, September 21, 2025, 17 people were arrested for throwing objects at an immobile truck at Ayala Bridge during the “Trillion-Peso March,” one of many protests that ignited due to public anger at the subsequent corruption investigation into flood control projects.
Sticks, stones, paint, and cardboard were thrown at the truck, its tires were set on fire, and it was sprayed with the words “F*** the corrupt” and “Kontra-korap (anti-corrupt)” as a symbol of protest.
17 black-clad men, some wearing masks, carried the Philippine flag and the Jolly Roger flag from the anime One Piece, which has become a symbol of protest following its first appearance in Indonesia, and later in Nepal.
Policemen and firefighters immediately responded to the situation, and charges were prepared against the perpetrators, some of whom were minors.
50,000 policemen were dispersed yesterday around the protest areas as demonstrations were expected around areas in Metro Manila.
The PNP reported that 300-400 people were gathered around the area, and that there were a few casualties due to the incident, among which were policemen and protesters, and police vehicles were also ruined in the process.
It also said that “Maximum tolerance would still be in force,” stating that they also understand that those responsible for such acts will be accountable under the law.
