National University halted a slow start and pulled off a 17–25, 16–25, 25–19, 25–21, 15–12 reverse sweep against Far Eastern University to widen their perfect run at 3–0 in the UAAP 88 women's volleyball at the Mall of Asia Arena, March 22.
FEU came out aggressive, dictating the pace early and taking the first two sets behind steady offense and disciplined defense.
NU struggled to find its rhythm in the opening frames, committing errors and falling behind in key exchanges.
The Lady Bulldogs turned things around in the third set, tightening their system and executing cleaner plays.
Momentum shifted as NU built confidence, carrying its improved form into the fourth to force a deciding fifth set.
Playmaker Lams Lamina directed NU’s offense and emphasized composure during the comeback.
“Since we lost those first two sets, we knew we slowed down. We knew we really had to adjust,” Lamina said.
She added that staying calm helped the team recover and finish strong.
NU trailed 11-7 in the final set before launching a crucial run to stay in contention.
Kaye Bombita triggered the rally, helping level the score and energize the Lady Bulldogs.
FEU briefly went ahead, but NU responded with a decisive closing surge.
Arah Panique delivered the finishing hits that secured the comeback victory.
Panique led all scorers with 27 points, while Vange Alinsug chipped in 15 for NU.
Gerzel Petallo paced FEU with 14 points, while Clarisse Loresco and Aly Devosora added 12 and 11, respectively, as the Lady Tamaraws slipped to a 1–2 record.
The NU Lady Bulldogs aim to bounce back at court this Sunday, March 29, to face the Ateneo Blue Eagles at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
