De La Salle University extended their perfect run at 9–0 by sweeping University of Santo Tomas, 25–12, 18–25, 25–23, 25–14, in the UAAP Season 88 women's volleyball at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, March 25.
The Lady Spikers halted a 12–20 deficit in the third set as they ignited a 9–1 bomb to tie the game at 21 points apiece despite losing the earlier set.
But UST pushed DLSU into a 21–23 hole after Shevana Laput’s attack errors, but La Salle threaded four points topped by an Angel Canino spike to cap the resurgence.
It was all La Salle from thereon as they sparked a 7–0 surge in the fourth frame which expanded their lead at 23–12 before sealing the deal with a two-point spurt.
Canino starred for the Lady Spikers after tallying 17 points, while Laput and Maica Reterta notched 14 and 10 points, individually.
Stuffing the stat sheet was also Eshana Nunag and Lyka De Leon as the former chipped in 20 excellent sets, while the latter snagged 11 digs and 10 excellent receptions.
Yet their counterparts also had their moment.
The losing side, however, clinched promising numbers as Angge Poyos reeled off a game-high 20 points, 12 receptions and seven digs.
Jurado and Cassie Carballo followed behind with 12 points and 19 excellent sets, respectively.
With the loss, UST’s three-game streak was unfortunately dashed after bowing down to the Lady Spikers.
DLSU aims to carry this performance into their next matchup in the UAAP tournament.
