BALITA | Sec. Angara sa 2026 DepEd budget: The most significant increase in recent years
Sinimulan na ng House of Representatives' appropriations committee ang deliberation sa proposed P928.52-billion 2026 budget ng Department of Education (DepEd) noong ika-3 ng Setyembre na itinuturing ni DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara bilang pinakamalaking pagbabago sa nagdaang mga taon.

Kabilang ito sa kabuuang P1.224-trillion proposed budget for basic and higher education na katumbas ng 4% ng GDP ng bansa at nakabatay sa recommended spending level ng United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) para sa edukasyon.

"This is the most significant increase in recent years in absolute terms. But in percentage terms, one of the largest in the last decade," saad ni Sec. Angara.

Dagdag pa niya, mas mataas ito ng 18% sa kasalukuyang 782 bilyong budget na kung saan 54% na ang nagamit at nagastos ng kagawaran.

Kung sakaling payagan, nangako ang DepEd na magpapasok sila ng 65,000 na bagong tauhan, dobleng allowance para sa mga guro na aabot ng P10,000 kada buwan, 200,000 laptops para sa mga guro, at magpapadala ng 10,000 school counselor associates tsa mga paaralang may mga mag-aaral na nakararanas ng mental health issues.

"Textbooks and learning resources are still lacking, with only 35 out of the required 94 titles delivered as of January 2025, and classroom construction continues to face delays and inefficiencies," ani House appropriations panel chairperson Rep. Mikaela Suansing (Nueva Ecija, 1st District) hinggil sa naging pag-aaral ng Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2)

Ayon pa sa kaniya, dapat umano masiguradong hindi lamang malaki ang halaga ng budget, ngunit pati ang magiging epekto nito.

Matatandaang humalili bilang DepEd Secretary si Sen. Sonny Angara noong 2024 matapos bumitiw sa puwesto si VP Sara Duterte na naging kalihim ng dalawang taon.
